What you'll learn

Natural killer (NK) cells are key elements of the immune system, and they play a crucial role in eradicating cells that have become malignant or infected with a virus. Cord blood is an important source of NK cells; however, they require a complex process of activation, manufacturing, and expansion in the lab prior to infusion to patients with cancer. Dr. Nieto is part of a group at MD Anderson Cancer Center that has developed off-the-shelf, frozen, cord blood-derived NK cells that have been tested in a variety of cancers with encouraging results. During the webinar, Dr. Nieto will:

1

Discuss the mechanism of action of natural killer (NK) cells and their source for treatment of cancer

2

Analyze the study results of donor NK cell therapy, focusing on those studies using banked cord blood as source

3

Review future lines of progress
