The 2023 hospice proposed rule: Understanding key changes

Written by Katherine Morrison, RN, MSN, CHPN, Director, Hospice Consulting Operations, WellSky

CMS released the hospice proposed rule for fiscal year 2023 on March 30, 2022. The rule proposes increases to hospice payment rates, updates to the Hospice Quality Reporting Program, and changes to the survey process. Hospice regulatory expert, Katherine Morrison, RN, MSN, CHPN, recently presented a webinar that addressed key elements of the proposed rule and explored the changes your agency should understand as you prepare for fiscal year 2023. A recording of this webinar is available to watch on-demand.

Now, in a new tip sheet, Katherine provides answers to the most frequently asked questions from the webinar.

Get answers to these questions and more:

  • When will the final rule be available?
  • What would qualify a patient to receive continuous home care (CHC)?
  • Is CHC preferred in the last few days instead of general inpatient care when a patient is actively dying?
  • What are the four core hospice conditions of participation?
