On August 1, 2025, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the hospice final rule for fiscal year (FY) 2026. CMS announced a 2.6% increase in Medicare base rate payments, which is more than the initial proposed increase of 2.4%. The final hospice aggregate cap also increased by 2.6%, raising it to $35,361.44 for FY 2026.

Katherine Morrison, RN, MSN, CHPN, is the Director of Advisory Services at WellSky. Morrison has worked in hospice for over 20 years, most of which was spent in leadership roles. She holds a master’s degree in nursing with a major in nursing informatics. Her experience includes leading home hospice programs as well as freestanding hospice residences. She is an End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) trainer and has presented the ELNEC curriculum to organizations of all sizes. She is a member of numerous industry organizations and is committed to excellence in end-of-life care.
