On Wednesday, June 26, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the home health proposed rule for calendar year (CY) 2025. This proposed rule includes a permanent prospective cut of 4.067% to the home health Medicare payment rate for CY 2025. Combined with other adjustments, the aggregate impact would be a 1.7% decrease. CMS also noted they intend to take back over $4.55 billion in perceived overpayment from providers within timelines that have not been provided as of yet. These proposed cuts hold the potential to negatively impact patient outcomes, reduce access to care, and worsen staffing challenges.
