FAQ about the FY 2025 hospice final rule

Written by Katherine Morrison, RN, MSN, CHPN, Director, Hospice Consulting Operations at WellSky

On July 30, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the hospice final rule for fiscal year (FY) 2025. CMS is increasing per diem payments to hospice providers by 2.9%, which is more than the initial proposed increase of 2.6%. The final hospice aggregate cap also increased to $34,465.34 for FY 2025 (up from $33,494.01 in FY 2024).

In a recent educational webinar from WellSky, hospice regulatory expert Katherine Morrison, RN, MSN, CHPN, covered key elements of the hospice final rule, like the payment updates, the new process measures for the Hospice Quality Reporting Program (HQRP), how the new Hospice Outcomes & Patient Evaluation (HOPE) tool will impact hospice care delivery, and strategies to comply with new CMS quality standards and prevent financial penalties.

That webinar is available to watch on-demand. Now, in this new tip sheet, Katherine provides answers to the most frequently asked questions about the FY 2025 hospice final rule.
