Webinar Caring Smarter

People who choose a life of caring — and the organizations and communities they serve — deserve a special kind of support.

New MDS User Manual draft: What long-term care providers need to know

On April 3, 2023, CMS released the much-anticipated draft version of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) User’s Manual. The MDS Item Sets will take effect on October 1, 2023. The manual itself has grown by almost 400 pages and is full of changes to the previous version. While providers typically experience RAI manual updates on an annual basis, this is the first manual release since version 1.17.1 went into effect on October 1, 2019, a delay caused by the public health emergency.

Watch our on-demand webinar, for a presentation on the most important changes in this version of the MDS User Manual and what your long-term care facility should do now before the MDS Item Sets take effect on October 1.

You’ll also learn about:

  • The initiative from CMS on health literacy and the impact that this can have on our residents
  • The changes to the Patient Health Questionnaire and what providers should do to prepare for this change
  • The dissolution of the long-standing section G of the MDS and the expansion of section GG
