Finding our way back home: Understanding and addressing concerns of hospice patients and families during a pandemic

Written by pioneering hospice physician Marcia Levetown, MD, MMM, HMDC, FAAHPM

Hospice visit refusals due to concerns about COVID-19 continue to be a widespread problem with significant impacts. Visit refusals hinder the care and support that hospices have a mission to provide, causing patients and families to suffer needlessly. And hospices struggle financially.

Pioneering hospice physician Marcia Levetown, MD, MMM, HMDC, FAAHPM recently presented an important webinar, during which she equips hospice providers with valuable communication strategies and tools for interacting with patients and their families during COVID-19. This webinar, Finding our way back home: Understanding and addressing concerns of hospice patients and families during a pandemic is available to watch on-demand. Now, Dr. Levetown provides responses to the most frequently asked questions during the webinar in this new FAQ document.

Get answers to these questions and more:

  • How can we be honest about the risks of COVID-19 without adding to patient and family fears?
  • What can we do to maintain connection and provide comfort for families while we are practicing social distancing?
  • What are some ways we can support family members and caregivers if a patient experiences an unattended death?
