Responding to the CMS Access Rule

See the rule as the next step toward the CMS long-term vision of value-based payments

The proposed Access Rule from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) is a transformational shift, which would change current requirements that have been in place since 2014. The rule is also a significant step toward the CMS long-term objective of value-based payments (VBP).

This tip sheet provides a framework to plan for the Access Rule and its implications while American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds may still be available. You will gain principles to help you understand:

  • What is the Access Rule
  • How might the Access Rule lead to value-based payment (VBP)
  • What value-based strategies should you consider

Waiver programs can learn much from the history of VBP in healthcare, which is briefly described in this tip sheet. Fill out the form to download this tip sheet and start mapping your plan for the Access Rule and VBP.
