Utilization of IRF designated beds
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued blanket waivers on March 13, 2020. These waivers have granted flexibility to free standing inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs) and IRF distinct part units in hospitals, enabling facilities to create more bed space for COVID-19 patients.
The waivers do not require any special request and can be utilized by IRFs throughout the COVID-19 public health emergency.
