The fiscal year 2021 final rule for inpatient rehabilitation facilities: a brief rule with significant changes

On August 10, 2020, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the fiscal year (FY) 2021 inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) Prospective Payment System (PPS) final rule for public inspection. In the final rule, CMS addressed changes in payment rates, the use of non-physician practitioners (NPPs), and documentation.

During this webinar, inpatient rehabilitation expert Angela M. Phillips, PT, President & Chief Executive Officer of Images and Associates, will discuss how the changes addressed in the FY21 final rule will impact your inpatient rehabilitation facility.

Join us to learn:

  • How rule changes allow for the use of NPPs, and how you can assure NPPs are qualified to provide services in your IRF
  • The difference between law and regulation, and how the “codification” of certain documentation requirements can impact your IRF concerning audits and appeals
  • How to address changes related to documentation of the pre-admission assessment
  • How the elimination of the Post-Admission Physician Evaluation (PAPE) impacts face-to-face visits by the rehabilitation physician and the NPP
  • What other regulatory areas your team should watch as you continue to navigate the public health emergency (PHE)
