Webinar Caring Smarter

People who choose a life of caring — and the organizations and communities they serve — deserve a special kind of support.

Win the referral: Understanding and achieving a five-star rating

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily. The system also helps these individuals identify questions they may want to ask before choosing a senior living facility.

Acute care providers pay close attention to the five-star rating of potential referral partners to ensure they are sending their patients to nursing homes with the best outcomes. Due to the importance and impact of this system, it is critical that nursing homes know their current five-star rating, but more importantly understand how their rating is calculated. During this session, Scott Heichel, RN, RAC-MT, RAC-CTA, DNS-CT, CIC, QCP, IPCO, Director of Clinical Reimbursement for LeaderStat, reviews how surveys, staffing, and quality metrics (QMs) impact your facility’s five-star rating.

Watch the recording to learn:

  • Which timeframe of QMs are used in the star rating calculation
  • How the overall star rating can be impacted by both the staffing and QM star
  • How to review the provider five-star report and explain how the overall star rating was calculated
