Webinar Caring Smarter

People who choose a life of caring — and the organizations and communities they serve — deserve a special kind of support.

Preparing for the new Long-Term Care Survey Process:
A focus on FICS

At the onset of COVID-19, the Centers for Medicare & Medicare (CMS) suspended the long-term care survey process. In May of 2020, surveyors began to return; however, the surveys were COVID-19 focused.

Finally, on January 4, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released updated Long-Term Care Survey Process (LTCSP) materials. This new process went into effect on February 6, 2021. The survey includes five new factors that can trigger a Focused Infection Control Survey (FICS). Now, as surveyors return to complete comprehensive reviews of the processes in long-term care facilities, leaders must ensure that their staff organization is prepared to meet new requirements.

In this session, Shery Thomas, Director of Clinical Services at LeaderStat discusses how the resumption of survey activities will impact skilled nursing facilities. This informative session includes a detailed breakdown of the latest survey requirements, including Focused Infection Control Surveys and enhanced enforcement. The webinar will also review the survey process, most common citations, and strategies for successful survey management.

Watch the recording to:
  • Learn about the process for resumption of survey activities, including FICS
  • Review Blanket 1135 Waiver FTags, including recent changes that take effect May 10, 2021
  • Review enhanced enforcement activities
