Writing an effective emergency preparedness plan
The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) instituted emergency preparedness regulations to ensure healthcare providers established adequate planning for both man-made and natural disasters. These regulations encourage federal, state, tribal, regional, and local organizations to collaborate to ensure the safety of residents and patients.
In order to ensure healthcare providers are maintaining effective and successful emergency preparedness plans, CMS released revised guidance for surveyors related to emergency preparedness on March 26, 2021. Having this plan in place is crucial for the safety and well-being of all residents and failing to provide an outlined plan could prevent you from participating in Medicare or Medicaid programs.

Melissa Tabor LPN, has nearly 12 years of experience working in health care, primarily in long-term care. Melissa has devoted her nursing career to educating and training nurses to use evidence-based practice. Melissa currently holds a multi-state license, and is a CPR instructor, level-one Medication Aid Instructor, and has certifications in diabetic/nutrition, Intravenous (IV) therapy, and wound care.
