In order to receive payment under Medicare or Medicaid, and other private insurances, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) must follow a specific set of standards. These standards are reviewed via a state survey or a Life Safety Code (LSC) survey and a Standard Survey.
With the introduction of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 5-Star Quality Rating System, surveys are more important than ever. The 5-star rating is used by consumers, regulators, insurers, and others to help decision-makers select which facilities they want to partner with or use. A critical component of the 5-Star rating is the health inspections component, which is directly related to the facility’s state inspection report.
Now, more than ever, SNFs must ace their state survey to demonstrate their proficiency to help build a positive reputation within the community. This document provides SNFs with a helpful checklist to help guide facilities through the survey process.
